Good morning! Today is another Be Inspired day over at the Cuttlebug Challenge blog! We have a wonderful sponsor this week - Marks Paper Company. If you participate in the challenge and post a link to your project on the Cuttlebug Challenge blog, you'll be eligible to win a pack of their beautiful papers!
I had the pleasure of using some of the lovely patterned papers from Marks Paper Company on my project this week. We were challenged to create a project with "Home Sweet Home" as the theme. I decided to alter a Maya Road chipboard house:
Home Sweet Home - Altered Chipboard House
Patterned papers: Marks Paper Co.
Glittered paper: Marcella by K,
Chipboard House: Maya Road
Stamps: Purple Onion Designs
Stamping Ink: Colorbox
Rhinestones: Heidi Swapp, Prima
Border punches: EK Success, Fiskars
Door knob: 7 Gypsies
Metal letter: Joann's,
Border die: Provo Craft Cuttlebug Floral Borders (lattice),
Corner die: Provo Craft Cuttlebug Fancy Corners
Die cutting machine: Provo Craft Cuttlebug
Acrylic paint: Plaid Folk Art (Coffee Bean, Cream)
Gold metallic leafing pen: Krylon
Other: lace
Here's how I created this project:
1. For the roof: Paint edges of roof and chimney with brown acrylic paint. Let dry. Cut ten 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips of patterned paper and punch the long side using a border punch. Ink the edges of the scallops with a sponge and stamping ink (optional).Cut a strip of paper about 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" and punch a border along the long sides of the paper. Fold this strip in half the long way and adhere to top of the roof. Adhere punched strips of paper on the roof as shown in photo. For the chimney: Cover chimney with patterned paper. Cut a 2" x 8" strip of red paper and punch a border along the long side of the paper. Adhere to the top of the chimney. Die cut a piece of silver glittered paper using the lattice border. Adhere this border along the top of the chimney as shown. Adhere the chimney to the roof. Using a craft knife or the edge of a fingernail, gently lift portions of the scallop borders on the roof for added dimension.
2. For the front of the house: Paint the sides and bottom of the house with cream acrylic paint. Let dry. Adhere various patterned papers to the sides of the house as shown. Adhere green patterned paper to the chipboard door. Stamp with fleur de lis stamp and embellish the door with the metal knob and rhinestones. Edge the door with a gold metallic pen. Stamp the front of the house with the script stamp. Stamp the bottom border of the house with the fleur de lis stamp. Adhere the door to the front of the house. Embellish with rhinestones. Adhere red patterned paper to the chipboard heart. Stamp the heart with the script stamp and edge it with the gold metallic pen. Adhere the metal letter to the heart, and adhere the heart to the front of the house as shown. Die cut a fancy corner from silver glittered paper. Adhere this die cut piece to the top part of the roof's gable on the front of the house as shown.
3. For the lattice borders: Punch four 2" x 5 1/4" strips of green paper along the border. Adhere to the sides of the house beneath the roof line. Die cut four pieces of silver glittered paper using the lattice die. Adhere the die cut lattice pieces on top of the green border pieces as shown on the house. For the sides with windows: Adhere silver vintage glass glitter to the two window panes. Let dry and then adhere to the sides of the house. Stamp the flourish border onto red paper twice and cut out. Adhere to the bottom of the windows as shown. Stamp two fleur de lis images onto green paper and cut out. Adhere to the center of the windows as shown.
4. For the back of the house: Stamp the back of the house with the round journaling stamp. Embellish the circle with rhinestones. Stamp a row of fleur de lis along the bottom border and embellish with rhinestones. Stamp a fleur de lis onto green paper and cut out. Adhere this image inside of the rhinestone circle. Hand cut images of boy and girl from the patterned paper and adhere to the back of the house as shown. Adhere a piece of lace to the top of this panel. Die cut two fancy corners from silver glittered paper. Adhere one corner below the rhinestone circle and adhere another corner to the top part of the roof's gable on the back. Cut four 1/8" wide strips of silver glittered paper and adhere to the bottom edge of each side of the house to complete.
